Several foster and adoptive parents share their experiences in this video from the Children’s Shelter. The children in these homes are clearly happy and thriving. Advice from these parents include:

1. Be open and loving.

2. Focus on helping the child adjust and realize it needs to be about the child, not about you.

3. Recognize the blessing the children are to you as much or more than the blessing you are to them.

The Chidren’s Shelter of Family Services is dedicated to “Restoring innocence. Ending the cycle of abuse.” Nationally accredited, they are a non-profit institution in Texas. They offer emergency shelter and also help children find permanent homes through foster care and adoption.
