Non-Recurring Adoption-Related Expenses

Non-Recurring Adoption-Related Expenses: This term refers to certain one-time adoption-related expenses, which may be at least partially reimbursed to families adopting children with special needs under state-sponsored adoption assistance programs, usually up to a maximum limit of $2,000, through the provisions of the Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare Act of 1980. Allowable expenses for this reimbursement benefit can include such one-time fees as the fee for the preparation of an adoption home study, adoption fees, court costs, attorney fees, physical and psychological examinations, travel to visits with the child prior to the placement, and other expenses related to the legal adoption of children with special needs.
