I longed to take you home with me,

Yet no one saw my pain,
My heart forever broken,
Never to be the same.
Through the years, my life’s gone on;
Grieving silently,
And when I look into the mirror,
I wonder if you look like me.
The last day that I held you,
And whispered my goodbyes,
I memorized each inch of you,
As tears spilled from my eyes.
I breathed in all your baby scent,
And stroked your jet black hair,
I kissed you softly on your cheek,
As you lay sleeping there.
And when I turned away to leave,
I heard you whimper so…
Dear lord please give him all he needs,
And watch him as he grows.
And lord please bless him with a mom,
Who loves him as I do,
Grant me the strength to live my life,
And faith to trust in you.
This grief is not what I had planned,
The guilt so hard to bear,
But when I look into the mirror,
I know he’s somewhere there.
