With over 18,000 children in the state of Arizona in foster care, and fewer than 5,000 licensed foster homes, Arizona is in a terrible crisis. Many children are being forced to sleep in group shelters, some even in overflow shelters like office spaces. The DHS has licensed private agencies to help with the crisis. These agencies focus on recruiting and maintaining foster parents. They hope to draw people in who have the heart to help. It is hoped that many who have wanted to help in the past, but have felt inadequate, will step up now and realize that being a foster parent is not scary, and that each loving parent makes a huge difference.
