It was five years ago that veteran and strong man, Donnie Kiernan, initiated the Tampa Bay Strongman Competition. This year, though, is special. Having been personally touched as he met a 3-year-old just entering the foster care system, Donnie called on community members and competitors alike to do something for the kids. At 6’ 3”, Donnie is a big guy. But even with his physical strength, he had a hard time holding in his emotions when he witnessed foster kids, with barely enough clothes to wear that day, light up when handed new backpacks, shirts, and shoes in preparation for school.
And so, this year’s event is dedicated to helping kids in foster care. Those attending are invited to bring a package of socks, a new backpack, school supplies, or a bag of clothing to donate to these innocent children in need.
