Lawmakers in Virginia are not only working hard to enforce strict laws against child sex trafficking, they are also looking into the high risk for foster children and to help keep them safe. Children in foster care are already traumatized, having lived in abusive and neglectful homes. Too often, the foster homes they are moved into are as bad or worse than the situations they came from. On top of that, there are foster parents who act as “pimps” and earn money trafficking the children in their care. State legislators have heard the concerns and are working toward a remedy.

The federal government is also working toward stopping the exploitation of children, especially those in foster care. There is a meeting scheduled at the end of this month at the White House to develop more fully the new federal rules.
