Faith Hill Shares More About Her Adoption Story and Relationship with her Birth Mom

Faith Hill is a well-known singer who seems to have it all, but that was not always the case. She faced many issues growing up, one of them wondering who she was.  She was adopted as an infant and did not know anything about her biological parents. As with many people who have been adopted, there is always a sense of wanting to know your biological origin. In an article by E News, Faith states, “I have a great family: salt of the earth, hardworking. But I’m a gypsy at heart. I had a spirit that was completely outside what my family was. I didn’t know anyone I was related to, biologically, which gives you a sense of not knowing who you are.”

Faith grew up in Mississippi, as part of a large family. Her mother was a bank teller. Her father was a factory worker. In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Faith states, “I was adopted into this incredible home, a loving positive environment, yet I had this yearning.”

At an early age, Faith asked about her biological mother.  She was told that her mother had an affair with a married man who did not want to acknowledge their shared child. As an adult, Faith found out that was not true. Her birth mother and birth father were actually married and had another child after Faith, her biological brother. Faith met her birth family and was building a relationship with her birth mother, but her birth mother passed away in 2007. Faith described the experience of meeting her birth mother for the first time, “I’d never seen anyone that looked anything like me. It was the awe of seeing someone you came from. It fills something.”. Faith’s birth mother was an artist, too, which helped Faith understand “where her artistic ability came from.”

Faith’s story comes from a typical and a-typical background. It is very common that adoptees wonder about their biological roots. But Faith has an added component that many of us do not: stardom. She has handled herself with grace throughout her adoption journey and continues to share with us the importance of adoption.
