Jeb Bush Makes Statement About Gay Couples and Adopting

Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida and contender for the 2016 GOP nomination, recently made a statement regarding gay couples adopting children. Caught off guard by the Miami Herald on a golf course last week, Mr. Bush stated, “It ought to be a local decision. I mean, a state decision. The state decided. The people of the state decided. But it’s been overturned by the courts, I guess.”

After this short statement on Sunday, his office issued a more specific statement to the press as reported by Tampa Bay Times:  “Previously, I opposed gay adoption, but it has since become the law in our state and I respect that decision.”

Bloggers and news writers from both conservative and liberal sides of gay issues are reacting to Bush’s attempt to appease potential voters on all sides. The Huffington Post is unimpressed by his attempt to soften his obvious conservative stand. Others wonder if his “softening” will hurt his position with the conservative community as GOP nomination time approaches.
