News Video: Michigan Law Allows the Denial of Adoption by Agencies Based on Beliefs

Michigan’s Governor Rick Snyder is backing the passage of their recent law that allows private adoption agencies to refuse adoptions to any individuals or couples who do not line up with their religious or moral beliefs. He says that this new law simply supports already existing state laws.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is looking to challenge this law, saying it is discriminatory. ACLU attorney Brooke Tucker said, “The constitution doesn’t allow discrimination based on religion and you can’t do that with state funds. We’re looking at our legal options and especially looking to hear from people who will be adversely affected by this.”
