News Video: New York Heroin Epidemic Creates Greater Need for Foster Families

Alan and Anne Canne are doing their part in caring for the state’s kids in foster care. Sadly, there are not enough couples like the Cannes. The Department of Social Services needs at least 20 more families to take care of the ever increasing children entering the foster care system.

The 11-week training program to become licensed as a foster family is free, so lack of money should not be a deterrent for those hoping to help. Additionally, a stipend is provided for each child in foster care to help pay for basic needs. The state is asking families who want to offer love, stability and safety to kids in need, to step forward and do what it takes to become licensed.
