Lesbian couple, Angie and Kami, decided to become parents. Their child was born in February and the couple has gotten married. The state of Utah will allow only the birth mother’s name on the birth certificate. For the state to recognize Angie as one of little Lucy’s parents, they require that Angie legally adopt Lucy. And so it looks as if Angie and Kami will be taking the state of Utah to court to battle over both of their names being placed on Lucy’s birth certificate.

The state attorney’s wrote in court documents: “It is a fact that a non-biologically related female spouse can never be the biological father of a child. It is a biological impossibility for a woman who does not give birth to a child to establish paternity of a child through the act of birth.”
