News Video: Pipe Ceremony Held in Honor of Foster Children

Focusing on foster children who have been taken from their aboriginal families and placed into foster care, separated from all that is familiar to them, leaders of First Nations recently held a Pipe Ceremony. In attendance were Native community members, police, social workers as well as Linda Young, a member of the Saskatoon Chief of Police’s advisory committee on First Nations and Metis. Linda knows first-hand the devastating effect of being taken from home. Being raised by her great-grandparents, Linda was taken at age 5 and lost connection with her aboriginal roots for a time. This ceremony served to recognize the need for the tribes to take care of their own.
