Growing up with Biological and Adopted Siblings

Life was normal for Heidi and her siblings. Heidi is child number two—less than a year younger than her adopted sister. The two loved being so close in age, and the rest of the family enjoyed their closeness, too.

At one point, Heidi’s parents adopted Korean brothers. It was a bit tougher for them, being adopted as older children, but eventually Heidi’s brothers were reunited with their birth sisters and birth mother. Heidi talks about that experience and how it felt.

There are a variety of feelings that siblings of adopted children have when they reunite with their birth families. For Heidi and her family, they felt inclusive and blessed—as if their family grew even more by welcoming in her siblings’ birth family.
