Former Foster Child Shares Her Story

“The simple basic things that your parents teach you, I had none of that,” says Lydia Joyner, former foster child.  Removed from her home at age 7, Lydia lived in 35 different foster homes, had 18 social workers and had her complete name changed 4 times.  At age 18 she “aged out” and became homeless.  “My story matters because your story matters,” Lydia says, after talking about her cousin who was placed in foster care with her.

My Sky Is Falling is a storytelling program that therapeutically raises awareness about the plight of American foster children as they approach the age of 18.  Their website provides shocking, but true, information about the foster system in general and individuals aging out, specifically.  My Sky Is Falling hosts events and happily collaborates to bring awareness to festivals and events throughout the country.
