Siblings’ Reaction to Bringing Home a New Adopted Child

Doug and Deanne Walker have 19 children, 10 of whom are adopted. These loving parents have been up and down and all around adoption and seem to me to be an endless bucket of adoption knowledge and wisdom. On top of that, the Walkers are welcoming, inviting, and friendly! This series of articles (watch for them on Tuesdays and Fridays from now on) covers everything from being an organized home executive to failed adoptions to finding the right agency. So as you read, imagine taking a comfortable spot on Deanne’s sofa as she openly shares her insight into each topic.

With so many children of varying ages and backgrounds in the Walker family, the question arises: Is everyone on board when a new child joins the family? And if not, how do the parents handle the situation? Doug and Deanne seek after the children that they feel, deep in their hearts, are theirs … so what happens if one of the siblings doesn’t feel that way? Or is there always complete harmony in regards to adoption?

Hyrum joins Doug & Deanne as they share how little Hannah reacted to siblings joining the family; and how all of their children react.
