Transracial Adoption: Is There Adequate Support?

NBC News Asian American brings into question the effectiveness of transracial adoption in helping a child not only assimilate in their environment, but also understand and relate to their culture and heritage. Although many white parents work hard to help their transracial children understand their roots, some think that there is no way white parents can be effective in this endeavor. Some also think that all adopted non-Caucasian children have a need to know their roots, regardless of how inclusive their adoptive family may be. However, many disagree. To some adoptees, race, ethnicity, and adoption are all non-issues. This Korean adoptee seems to have a pretty good grasp on who he is, even though he grew up essentially Jewish-Caucasian.
