This video was hard to watch. It shows a family’s journey to an orphanage in Beijing to pick up their new son, Ben. You feel how anxious the mother is to hold her son. You can tell that she is stressed he won’t come to her. She continues to be patient and eventually he gives in.
It tends to be a much different situation when you adopt an infant, but Ben is about 2 years old. In the case of this video, this family is taking him from all he has ever known. This makes him nervous and scared.
At 11:17 You see him interact with his new “ge-ge,” which means big brother in Mandarin. Sam is patient and keeps a good distance, while still playing trying to make Ben feel comfortable.
By the end of the video, Ben seems to have warmed up to his family, and they begin their journey back to the US.
