Steve Belshaw, 54, was placed for adoption via a newspaper ad when he was an infant. He had known he was adopted since he was about eight years old. His birth mother, Frances Unsworth, was 17 years old when she found out she was pregnant. The father of her baby was killed in a motorcycle accident. Amidst the tragedy she decided the best thing she could do for her child was to place him with a family who could take care of him. Sadly, Frances died in 2004 before Steve had found her.
On her death certificate, there was another son listed. Robert Hall, 49, was extremely surprised to find out he had a brother. Perhaps the most shocking detail of all is that the brothers lived about a mile from each other for many years. When the two met, Steve was given a photograph of his mother. It was the first time he had seen her. It was an emotional time. He thinks it speaks highly of her character that she invested so much time and effort finding a family for him. He is looking forward to spending more time with Rob and learning what he can about her life.
