My mom flew in on Wednesday last week and will be leaving in the morning :(. I wish she lived closer. I love having my mom around and so do my kiddoes. M is finishing up her homework and I'm waiting for her to be done so I can go to bed. My dad came for a day, it was a wonderful visit.
C was baptized on Saturday. Everything went perfect. A very big step in our Faith. This is her decision to make. She took this very seriously and has been reading her scriptures and writing in her journal every day since her baptism-C is not a serious girl! It is amazing to see her grow up and also a little sad, but this step was not sad. I can see her growing into her own person and a beautiful girl both inside and out. What a wonderful week!
While my mom was here we decided to get a few projects done. We have a 1970's lime green table cloths like wallpapered 1/2 bath in what we call the "apartment" part of our old home, its clean, we use it, but wow is it ugly. We ripped the vinyl crap off of the all and discovered that we also ripped the backing of the wall which means mudding and sanding and a lot more work then we expected. Its okay because it is a small space.
The problem... C and M split rooms last year towards the last month Maya lived with us. After much debate between dh and I we decided they should go back together. The first reason is that they sleep in each other's room anyway. C will sleep in M's room or M will sleep in C's room. The second reason, I want a girly lace pink nursery-all of which C hates. I was thinking we would put baby with C, but now that I realize it would basically be putting all 3 girls in the same room we were-thinking. The 3rd reason is that they girls hate their rooms and I do not want to redecorate both rooms.
I feel by the time baby girl is old enough to be in a toddler bed M will want her own space and we will be ready to decorate the other room for M into a teen hang out *sigh* I don't want lime green walls in my victorian house.... At that time baby will be ready to move into the "big girl room" with C. BTW the room they used to share and will share is HUGE...plenty of space for both of them.
My girls have always HATED, not just disliked but HATED their rooms. It is what they call "old lady" wallpaper. Part of me can't blame them, the rooms are not at all modern or trendy or able to be. We moved from a home that I had been able to paint their rooms exactly how they wanted. We had to get rid of all of the trendy stuff they both loved. We do not plan on staying in this house forever and decided not to remodel because its tastefully decorated to suit this house...now we are still here and it looks like we will be for a long time.
We talked it over with the girls. That if they wanted to move into the same room we would update the big room for them but that we will not update both rooms. They were both ecstatic. Then came the "fun" of having the girls pick something they BOTH agree on. What ensued was tears and tears and tears (From C-totally out of character for her) and snotty comment after comment of "I HATE that" from M-also out of Character. C wants a "horse theme", M wants lime green. I thought it wasn't going to work. We finally came to a compromise on the upated walls. This was not the "happy" excited time I thought it would be. If I'm going to go to all this trouble I want them to LOVE it!
We also will need bunk beds-got rid of the old one last year (why!?) So we were online looking for bunk beds, figured at least this was something they could agree on. We had a hallelujah moment! We found a bed that brought them both together. It is awesomely brightly colored in BOTH their fave colors, purple and lime green! Its hard to describe. The top bunk is a loft "house" with a window and shutters, the bottom bed is in the house "walls" with built in shelves to the side of the bottom bed. It looks like a giant doll house, but not in a babyish sort of way. Its the absolute most adorable bed I have ever seen. I wasn't really thinking this was a serious option as we were looking. But the girls were finally happy and jumping up and down excited about their "new" room! :) I could "hear the bells." I could see my baby nursery....okay I'm being a little silly but I want that nursery, its my last chance dang it! All was taking shape as all my girls were happy with their dream space.
But this bed and redecorating is our Christmas budget, I'm talking the entire shebang. I decided my present will be our baby and E's adoption! The girls told us they did not want Christmas presents if we got them this bed, uh ya right....come Christmas morning they will be singing a different tune after the excitement wears off from the bed and they have nothing to open.
Dh found out our local furniture store can get the bed to us for a greatly discounted price plus no shipping cost. However, it will take until December for them to get it in...so our wheels started to turn. We decided to tell them for now all we can do are update the walls, that we are sorry about the house bed. The bed they have now is a trundle and can work.
We will have them sleep in our room Christmas eve and we will surprise them by putting the bed together! I'm thinking a treasure hunt to their room, Christmas morning after E opens his presents. There is a rug and bedding from Target that both girls have begged me for, it would look terrible in their rooms currently so I have told them "no". I will let them open all of this first. Also C wants some "whimsy" horse themed canvases done by a local artist that cost a small fortune. She is my budding artist so I'm going to buy the canvas and paints and she can do it herself, so much more fun and meaningful for both of us. M wants some gymnastics stuff to go on the wall...let them open all first. This is going to be so much fun!
The first thing this morning I feel a child hovering over me in my sleep. it is C, "mom, did you and dad decide to get us the bed!?" The hard part was the disapointment when we told them we couldn't get it. My girls are sweet, no tantrums or tears. This "dream" bed brought them together and now they are both excited to get rid of the "old lady" wallpaper and said it was okay not to have the bed.
So ready for Christmas to get here already! Oh I found E's perfect future bed (when he is ready and won't break his arm on it!) Its a bunk bed that has a tent on top and a 'club house' on the bottom. There is also a slide to get down! Too much fun. For now we will stick with the toddler bed. Its all this mom can handle with my little dare devil.
