Nicole was born with the severe birth defect of having most of her organs outside of her body.  For 18 months Nicole lived in the hospital.

One of Nicole’s nurses, Amber Boyd, fell immediately in love with the infant. She cared for her in the hospital, then took her home as a foster child. After another year and a half, the Boyd family has grown from two to three, with the judge signing official adoption papers. “We had all our family and friends supporting us. The courtroom was packed. It was great. We were all bawling and crying, but it was wonderful,” Amber said.

Nicole will continue therapy each weekday as she works to catch up with others her age. Once the trach tube is removed, it is expected that she will be able to begin expressing herself with words. Nicole’s parents can’t imagine a life without her and are excited to participate in her progress.
