Trends are changing in many ways throughout the world. As the economy improves, companies need to compete harder to recruit and retain good employees. Part of that competition comes in the form of parental leave.

American Express is right near the top as they have recently changed their policy for maternity/paternity leave for their employees. Now, regardless of gender and regardless of the way a parent gets their child (birth, adoption, surrogacy), American Express gives the new parent a full 20 weeks of leave. And for birth mothers, they are offering an additional six to eight weeks.

There are other companies who have jumped on the parental-leave bandwagon. More and more often, hopeful employees have choices. As they look at the wage and benefits packages offered by varying companies, many are choosing those who are generous with their leave time for families.
