A seven-year-old girl is the focus of an unusual custody battle. Her father, as listed on her birth certificate and who legally signed an affidavit of parentage, was fatally stabbed by the girl’s mother on February 14, 2015. Her mother is now in jail and parental rights have been terminated. At the time of the girl’s birth, her mother was married to another man, Garrett Dixon-Bey, and was never divorced.
State laws claim that any children born to a married couple are the legal children of that couple — both the husband and the wife. This has created a legal battle and has left the little girl in limbo.
Family of Gregory Stack — the man who was stabbed — are heartbroken and concerned for the little girl who is now living with strangers. Fighting for custody, also, is the girl’s grown half-sister.
