Many parents have been patiently—or not so patiently—waiting to bring home their adopted children from Congo. It’s been two long years for these parents who legally adopted their children right at the time that the Democratic Republic of Congo put a halt on all exit papers for adopted children.
Then, just weeks ago, nearly 160 Congolese children were released from orphanages and parents allowed to pick them up and take them to their new adoptive homes. One couple affected by this situation, Josh and Emily Koskinen, were thrilled beyond measure when they got the news that their little Herve could be brought home. “It’s the same feeling that I had after I gave birth to my other boys: you’re so exhausted and you can’t believe you’ve carried this baby for nine months, and then you give birth and that’s exhausting, but then you look into their face and it’s all worth it,” Emily said.
