Former foster youth Jelani Freeman used his speaking time at the Democratic National Convention not only to show his support for Hillary Clinton, but to champion the cause of foster children everywhere.
Although he admitted to nervousness, he was grateful for the opportunity to talk about the opportunities he received as Clinton invited him to become an intern in her office and move forward in a successful way, rising above the difficulties associated with a life lived in foster care.
Freeman shared his feelings on foster care of loneliness and fright, acknowledging that those are common feelings among foster children. Then he used his time to call for help for those currently in the foster care system.
“Really, I try to focus my message on making sure that people know that there are still kids out there like that that need a helping hand, a caring adult, someone to encourage them and support them,” he stated.
