You might use the following information below as a checklist for getting information to start your search in California. If you have any problems requesting this information you can email me at:
1) To begin your search your mother should contact the adoption agency that handled the adoption and request "non-identifying" information from the adoption file. The non-identifying information gives the ages, marital status and physical description of the adopting parents and information about any other children, natural or adopted, in their family.
2) Your mother should also request a "Waiver for Consent to Contact" form. The Waiver is a form that can be used by adoptees or birthparents to give their permission for contact should a waiver be filed by both parties.
3) If your mother does not know what agency handled the adoption, or if it was a private adoption, your mother can contact this office for the above services:
California Department of Social Services
Adoption Branch
744 P Street, MS 19-67
Sacramento, CA 95814

Were you relinquished also? If so you can contact this office and request a "Waiver for Consent to Contact Form".
State of California
Dept of Social Services, Adoptions

The Waiver is a form that can be used by adoptees, relinquished siblings or birthparents to give their permission for contact should a waiver be filed by both parties.
If you were not relinquished one of the birth parents must request the form from the State.
If you have any trouble requesting the information resources or finding out the name of the adoption agency that handled the adoption please email me at:thesearchguru@yahoo.com

If I am an adoptee, handled through a private adoption back in 1958, how would I go about getting any information about my birth mother or siblings? Supposedly, I have an older half sister as well. I am registered with International Soundex Reunion Registry and have recently send a DNA test to AncestryDNA. Thank you for any information you can provide.
