I could use this information as well. I was born and adopted in NY and I'm not even sure how to begin. I want to request information from my adoption agency, as well as from the state courts.

You need to go to the probabte court in your area. My records were sealed and I was able to get them unsealed. You have to fill out a form then it goes to the records department and then they pull out your file. If your birth family was looking for you there will be a paper in there stating it is ok to unseal the records. The process takes a very long time. Took about 2 months for me. Another thing you can do is if you know when and where you were born you can call the hospital and see about possibly getting a list of births on the day you were born. In my case I was the only baby girl born that day so it was pretty much obivious. Well if anyone needs advice or help feel free to send me a message. I wish you all luck in searching for your birth familes.

I called the hospital where I was born and because of the hippa law they wont give me any info. Where can I get one of those forms to unseal my records? The sad thing is I work for this hospital and I thought that I might have some pull to get that info. but I don't. Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Board! To request a copy of the petition form to open your sealed adoption file contact the court where your adoption was finalized. They may not have a form on-line so ask them to mail you the form if necessary. After filling out the form attach a copy of your driver's license and a copy of your amended birth certificate. Write a cover letter explaining your reason for requesting that your file be opened. Read the instructions for filling out the form for the reasons that the court will find acceptable for opening your file. Have your signature on the petition notarized before signing and mailing. Keep a copy for your records. I'm a aunt looking for my nephew, and on one of the replys it said that when the adoptee goes to get their files opened there will be something in there stating that their family is looking for them and therefore it will be ok to open the sealed document. My question is how do I go about letting the courts know that we are looking for John and to put that in my nephews file? Thank you all for your time, bre36

I was born and adopted in Ohio in 1974. According to our laws I can only request and receive non identifying information. Should I try to petition the court to release my full records? I'm petitioning the state of Ga. to unseal my birth records. In order to do so I must send a letter to them and let them know that I'm going to do this. (I need help with the letter and Petition) Then I have to wait 30 days, file the petition, then wait for a court date to go in front of the Fulton Co. Superior Court Judge (Atlanta, Ga.) we are doing it for medical reasons (code # 19-8-23) and because we found out he was a black market baby on the states end corrupt people working there, so his adopted family did not know. Juvenile Court for purpose of adoption. Finalized 9-9-1966 @ Bulloch Co. Superior Court Ga. Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry has done a search for me. I may have been a Black Market Baby w/E. B. Hamilton, Judge John F. Hardin and others that were working together in Augusta, ga. @ that time. So I hope this information that I have is correct, because she falsified a lot of peopleҒs information.
