My mother gave a baby boy up for adoption when I was 5 and my little brother was 2, I was not told about this until a few years ago. I was told by my mother that the father of the baby had parents that owned a music store, but she couldn't remember anything else. The baby was born in Seattle area in the late summer through early winter 1965. My Mother said that she had to name the baby before she left the hospital, she named him Anthony, I don't know if this is in any records or not. I am looking for this brother. I hope this is the same child.
Hi-
You have a couple options for searching in WA state:
1. Search on your own - if you want to search on your own, the first step is to get your "non-identifying information" (non-id). You can get this from the county that the adoption was finalized in, from the adoption agency (if one was involved), and from DSHS in Olympia (if DSHS was involved). Be sure to specifically request FIRST NAMES when requesting non-id in WA. WA law allows for the release of first names (see #14: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=26.33.0200)
2. Hire a confidential intermediary (CI) - several options are available for hiring a CI but they are pricey - avg $300-$600.
There are pros and cons to both routes, so investigate before deciding what to do.
We also have a free Yahoo group that's focused on helping people searching in WA State. All you need is a free Yahoo email account to join. The name is Washington State Adoption Search and the URL is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/washingtonstateadoptionsearch.
Let me know if you need more help and I'll do what I can! : )
