I am searching for my birth mother. I was born in London, Ontario at (I think) the Salvation Army Home for Unwed Mothers. My adopted father recently gave me the name of my birth mother and I have a thirty year old address for her. I have met her in the past but was unaware that she was my mother. My date of birth is November 4, 1946. I believe that my adoption was private as my adopted father's brother was my birth mother's stepfather. My biological grandmother passed away in February 1970. My mother's maiden name was Shepherd and she would be in her mid 70's by now. Her stepfather's last name was Shaw and he passed away in September 1974. I would really like to make contact with my mother. My adopted father is now almost 92 and being an only child, I have no one when he is gone. If anyone has any info that might match, I would really appreciate hearing from you. The last address I have for my birth mother is Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

Hello,
Have you applied in the province in which you were adopted for a copy of your adoption order as well as a copy of the non-identifying information regarding your birthfamily?
If you know that the biological mother passed away in 1970, your birthmothers step father in 1974 ~ ~ have you obtained a copy of these obituaries?
An obituary may disclose the married name of your birthmother.
There are places and volunteers on the internet that may be able to help you obtain this.
Do you know if she was originally from Ontario or from the States?

Thank you for replying to my post. Perhaps I did not clearly state that it was my biological grandmother who passed away in 1970. I believe that my birth mother is still alive. I was born in London, Ontario and my birth mother moved to the U.S. after my adoption. The last known address that I have is 30 years old. I have written to her at that address in the hope that she might still reside there. I have not had a response as yet, but it has been only a few weeks since I sent the letter.
Thank you again for your response.
Regards,
Sonya
Yes, you did state it correctly, and I understood it was your birthgrandmother - just wrote it wrong.
if you haven't obtained copies of the obituaries of those that have passed on, I would suggest attempting to get them, they may just lead you to her if you don't get a response from your letter.
There is a chance she lives there, we have found a few birthmothers that have lived in the same place for 10, 20 30 or more years.
Good luck!!
