At what age are you able to go back to Catholic Charities and find out your adoption records. I know my file was sealed and that at a certain age it can be opened, but does any one know what the age is?
I believe it depends on what state you are in.
For example I was adopted in NY. You had to be 18 to ask, and all they will give you in non-id info.

thats what age i thought, but i wasnt sure, and what is the non-id info, like is that basically the info that i prob already have?
I think it depends on what state you were adopted in. I was adopted through Catholic Charities in Ohio, and my adoption records are closed. You can always contact the Probate Court where your adoption was finalized to get the appropriate state law. Good luck in your search! :)
My non-id contained almost everything about my birthfamily that CC knew at the time of my birth/adoption - except my parents' names and where they lived. I received info. re: my b-parents, their ages at my birth, about all their brothers and sisters and their parents. There was a brief physical description of all, and if known, parent's occupations as well. Also ethnic heritage, etc.
I think you have to be 18 - maybe 21. Call CC and find out.

I put a baby girl up for adoption on april 1986 in Kokomo Indiana. I was told by the Catholic Charties that her records could be release up her 18 th birthday. I have been searching for her for about 5 years. I dont know if my information is true, but I sure hope so. I left a letter for her to be opened on her 18 th birthday that gave her all my information. Good luck Lori
