My mother gave birth to a baby girl in Normandy, MO in May of 1961. My mother was 15 years old at the time of birth - her name is Judy Gillihan (maiden name). All I know is that my mother grew up in St. Louis and attended a Catholic school. When she became pregnant, she was sent to a "home" (maternity?) in Normandy, MO. Does this sound familiar to anyone????? Please help.
There were several maternity homes in St. Louis until the mid to late 1970's. But I would assume if your mother was Catholic she probably went to Villa Maria Maternity Home. It still exists but now as a home for unwed mothers who have kept their children but have no where to go. You could call Catholic Charities here in St. Louis ask to speack with the director she knows alot about the home.
Do you know which hospital the child was born at? That could help in your search for the correct home?
I live in St. Peters, MO which is not far from Normandy.
