Friends,
After my last post on 11-14-04, an Adoption Forums friend suggested I give Julie Kizele (who assists adoptees at the St Louis family court) a call. I did so and less than 1 month later~much sooner than I expected~ I held in my hand a letter describing my birthparents with an intimacy I never expected to experience. My birthmother actually had red hair~what a marvelous surprise. And she worked at Walgreen's as a waitress. So did I!
In spite of being raised by a fantastic adopted family (my real Dad and Mom), knowing more about my birthparents has given me a fresh appreciation for the decision they had to make. I honestly don't know if I'll ever contact my birth family (Missouri state law makes this possibility extremely difficult) but discovering more about them has given me a big boost! Best wishes in your search.
Merrylynn
Good job in requesting and receiving your non-id.!!!! Beautiful story. And as my searcher once told me ----" may your feet never touch the ground." !!!! Ellen

ISO birthmother and family. I was born 8/3/65 at Bethesda General Hospital in St. Louis MO. I'm searching for any member of my birth-family or friends of the family. I'm married with kids of my own. I have great adoptive family and in-laws. The only people missing are the ones who gave me life. Thank you! MerryLynn
This is where I am now. I've received the non-id info and talked with my Mom about signing the release forms. She is reluctant to do this and since I employ a "choose your battles" mentality concerning conflict~is this a typical adoptee characteristic?~ I am hesitant to press her on this issue.
I have no names, scant info on dates. The hospital no longer exsists. Therefore: what should I do next, any ideas? Thanks for your help. Merrylynn
It is too bad -----to say the least !!!! --- that Missouri laws require the consent of the adoptive parents. It is a terrible law. I would gently continue to encourage your mom regarding assisting you. Let her know that you are not looking for " another mother ", etc. and explain that your physician is encouraging you. Many diseases can not be treated effectively unless there is a current medical history. The health and well being of you, any children or grandchildren in the future, needs attention. And prayer always helps !!!! Ellen
