Hello!
Hubby and I are new to adoption process and have friends who have adopted, but none in Utah. We are currently looking for lawyers. My sixteen year old sister just approached us about adopting her 1&1/2 mo. old daughter. Bf has been in jail since before the baby was born, sis never claimed him as father so as long as he doesn't push paternity we are ok, but looking into diff options of how to get his paternity rights revoked (he is very violent and abusive). Does anyone know the laws regarding homestudy and adopting a relative's child in Utah. Do we still have to do homestudy? We also need advice on how to help sis. make the emotional/physical seperation since we live in same ward and a few miles from each other.

Yes, you do need a homestudy. I can also give you the name of a great social worker I have used. PM me back if you want more details.
