Hello all, I am hoping to find anyone who is in process or has been successful in adopting a child from Greece. My husband and I meet criteria and know it will be an arduous process. Looking for some support. Thanks Eleni

Hi, Eleni. Sorry not to be able to provide assistance of a "been there, done that" point of view, but unfortunately my husband & I did not meet the rather arduous criteria for Greek adoption (although he is 1st generation Greek-American and we were married Orthodox). However, I still wanted to wish you the best as Greece was initially our first choice due to his heritage.
We happily ended up with a Russian adoption of 2 beautiful babies, a little boy and a girl, whom we brought home Nov. 2004, who are now 10 and 11 mos. old (Christopher Yanni and Alexandra Natalia - we kept their Russian middle names). Russia was our 2nd choice due to the religious (Eastern Orthodox) connection after Greece did not work out. But we certainly have no regrets as we are certain we brought home the children who were meant to be part of our family, so all things happen for a reason. We'll just teach them all the great Greek stuff in addition to making them aware of their Russian heritage, heh, heh. (Trust me, they are daily being indoctrinated!!:) )
Seriously, just wanted to wish you the very best of luck & may God bless you in your efforts. So excited for you that you meet the criteria and will hopefully be able to complete a Greek adoption as that is wonderful. Hang tough even though these things become very arduous. I can assure you the efforts are more than worth it when you get through the whole international adoption process to reap the fantastic rewards of your forever family. :) Your lives will never be the same, and I can tell you our children are truly the joy of our lives now. Yours will be, too.
Take care and hope all goes well.

Kim, thank you for the well wishes. Since last posting we have needed to make some adjustments but will continue to pursue a Greece adoption, it just may not be where we find our first. We are now looking at domestic/private adoption, although we considered Russia for the same reasons you stated, we don't think we can afford it. I have been to Russia and it is easy to fall in love with the children there (and anywhere). We look forward to finding our children, I am having some difficulty with patience, each day is a new day. Would love to hear more about your experience, PM me sometime. Best Wishes, Eleni
I know the wait is very long, I am aware of a family who waited 10years for a baby and someone I know who lives in Greece and is Greek waited over 3 years for their match. I imagine if you are living outside of the country the wait would be much longer as priority would go to Greeks living in Greece. Not sure how much research you have done yet but you could look at the Υπουργείο Υγείας και Κοινωνικής Αλληλεγγύης website (department for health and social solidarity) they have a department that deals with all intergovermental adoptions. They may be able to help. email kady@yyka.gov.gr or tel 2105243343
Good luck
