My statistics went up. I attribute it partly to something I saw in Moose's "The Mummaus" blogs. And I started doing it.
Human beings love stories.... I think that people love Soap Opera TV shows for the same reason they love blogs.
They get an ongoing story....
Moose lists all the links for the "The Mummaus" blogs, at the bottom of each blog. He provides the connection/link for the entire story.
So I started just writing long pieces... Then I break it into into 300 to 400 word chunks. Then I rewrite. Then I post the 3 or 4 blogs and put links for all the blogs at the bottom... like a table of contents

Thanks for that...interesting. You all can expect to see the entire story of our adoption this month, then...I only got to part 10 and we hadn't even met Little J. I guess I'll go back and put in the links to all the old stories....
Meanwhile, I want to know WHO is getting the 35,000 hits!

(hand raise) It's me. Not exactly sure how, because there are so many good posts being written by everyone.
One tip: point your readers toward previous relevant posts you've written. For example, if I'm writing a post about helping older kids settle in, I'll also add a link to a previous post I wrote about favorite foods of newly adopted Ethiopian kids. I figure most of my readers haven't read all my writing, so they may like being pointed toward relevant older writing they may have missed.

Thanks for starting this discussion, Angela. Another tip: Just because your blog is linked in your signature, whenever you post somewhere (on a forum, on another blog), it's a good idea to link directly to a relevant post on your blog when you're talking about something... i.e., as I said in my blog, (LINK HERE), etc... People may not follow a signature link as much as a link about a particular issue/topic/idea/question they're interested in. (Now how bad was THAT grammar!?)

Actually, I have it figured out. As part of her kids' daily chores she has each of them go to her blog and click on different posts 50 times each...that adds up quick! There's no way my 2 can compete with that.

PS-- Actually on my [URL="http://owlhaven.wordpress.com"]personal blog[/URL], my statcounter automatically excludes my own IP address from the tally, thus not counting my own visits to my blog. I would assume that adoption.com does something like that too....

I've tried posting at various times, I always try to get one post in the morning for my readers who sit down with coffee, and another later in the day, to catch the later people...(or the real early birds).. but I also wonder...
...Is it better to have your post up longer on the main page before a bunch of others post on top???...

Actually I only started posting at 7 am last month...probably people like the consistency. But I am not sure it has tons to do with it. I would be inclined to think it has more to do with posting something every day (at any time). I know that in my personal blog reading, if I don't see anything new from someone for two or three days, I am less likely to visit and more likely to take them off my list. I like to read blogs that are regularly updated. Makes my visits there worth the time....

I always have multiple windows open... Once window is used for searching while I am writing my blog.
You can hand crafted the HTML for a link. Or
1) Write the text you want to be a link
2) Select the text
3) Select the "link" button.
4) Paste in the URL
5) Click OK and you are done.

I don't know if you have played around with the other buttons.
I like "INS" because it turns the text blue and makes it pop out.
"DEL" is fun to use, it strikes out a word.
"STR" for bold... I use this one a lot.
"EM" for italics... I don't like italics because I don't think it is very readable.
"P" for paragraph is useless. Just hit enter to make a new paragraph.
"UL", "OL", "LI", I use fairly frequently to create lists.
I use "BLOCK" when I am quoting something.
I ignore "IMG"
I haven't found any use for "PRE"
"X" is useful when I have hand crafted some HTML and forgot to close my tags.
