Hey all,Can you relate?! I just needed to let out a little frustration here. I know it's the season for cold and the flu, but this is ridiculous. My poor daughter had a high fever (104) about 2 1/2 weeks ago. She was on antibiotics (due to elevated white blood count). So she gets better...and now she is catching a cold! ARGH!!! She has felt slightly warm for the past day or so. Her nose is running, and she is coughing up a storm. I am a fulltime working mom. So she goes to preschool during the day. I am just waiting for that phone call to come and pick her up....(sigh) Does anyone give their toddler vitamins? Are there any homeopathic remedys you suggest for warding off colds and flu? Thanks,Julie

I would just say our son had a slight cold a week or two before Thanksgiving. I attributed it to teething, but then the week after T'giving, he had the virus going around with the high fever/nose/cough. I assumed it was a virus and did not have him on antibiotics. Since then (knock on wood), we've been fine and healthy. HOpefully, this thing your daughter has is just a cold and will leave you ASAP so she can return to healthy! I tried to be sure our boy was taking in some extra Vitamin C w/ more fruits/veggies while he was sick and a little juice to keep him hydrated. I did buy the L'il Noses drops/spray to help his congestion (but never ended up having to use them) and used a warm mist humidifier at night.Good luck!
mom2 - we are right there with you. I though that DS was finally done with the gross nose. The kids' aunt took them for awhile on saturday and sure enough come sunday morning they were both full of snot and coughing. Last night I was up multiple times to clear out DD - I was paranoid that her nose would fill up keeping her from breathing.
Right there with ya.... Everyone keeps telling me that this is building DD's immune system but I want to know what happen to mine? I get everything she brings home! as well as the extended family that help me out during sick times. We had a horrible URI around Christmas. Another URI about 3 weeks ago, a stomach virus and while @ the doctor for the stomach virus picked up another URI. Definitely open to the magic cure that would prevent this. DD loves fruit and eats her apples and oranges but "the apple a day keeps the dr away" is not working for us! :-)
I feel your pain as well. H had rotavirus for about a week (nothing they can do about it except try to stop the vomiting and keep them hydrated) then was OK for about 3 days, then had a recurrence, then caught some nasty URI (probably in the darn waiting room at the doctor's office!) He's just finished a round of antibiotics that cleaned out the good bacteria as well as the bad, so now we have diarrhea again. We are going on week 4 of being sick----and it's really been all at once, he's been healthy until now. We do give him vitamins and we do use a humidifier at night. I'll tell you though, our ped said he couldn't remember a worse six weeks in all the years he's been practicing---every kid in town is apparently sick. Have any of you noticed a little regression on skills after being sick? H is SOOOO whiny and clingy (he's not usually) and apparently has decided he doesn't want to use any of the words he's learned recently---just points at stuff.

Does Kelcee have tubes in her ears? It made a huge difference for my DD when she got her tubes. 12 infections in 2 years - yikes!
We have a constant runny nose (almost all year round really) and drooling when she has a cold. I took her to the drs last week to address the drooling again and she thinks its because she doesnt want to swallow when she has a sore throat. I hadn't thought about that. I am giving her claritin on the days she is more stuffy and we are going to look into allergy testing her after her 3rd birthday in June.
I only use the Claritin when she has a really runny nose in the am. At first she hated it, but it really does work well. If she is not draining then she doesn't get as frequent sore throats, ear aches, etc.
My pediatrican recommended it until we can figure out what is causing her allergies. At 2 they tell you to sit tight and try and wait the allergies out as they grow out of them around 3.
