Has anyone applied for a tax id number for baby? HELP!!!

The good news is that it only takes about 2 weeks to get the Social Security number. In fact, my son's came in a week. It stinks that it is so unclear....the woman at the SS office who at first didn't want to take the translated documents kept telling me that I could get a TIN for John which my agency said I could not get.
