My husband Ron and I have been home less than two months with our son Nathan who we adopted from China. He is our first child. Ron has three grown children. We have met quite a few people in the OKC area who are connected to adoption somehow but not that many who meet on message boards.

We looked into adoption almost four years ago after some fertility treatments failed to work. We explored domestic adoption, but the costs are so high, and the agency we went with wanted the money upfront. (I'm sure not all of them are this way.) So we decided to go the DHS route, which involved a lot of workshops that involved a lot of horror stories, all of which we stuck through only to go more than three years without a child or even the prospects of adopting one through DHS. (We're pretty much ignored by them.) There were a lot of highs and lows in the process. There was a workshop about China, so we thought why not, it was free. We left in love with the program that seems stable and perfect for us. This will be our first child, and I'm hoping we eventually will have another so our daughter can have a sibling. We have discusssed why we didn't do this sooner, but the the child we come home with wouldn't have been our daughter. We can't wait until that day comes.

P.S. Congratulations on bringing home Nathan. I'll bet your lives are fulfilled and turned upside down. :)
