While doing foster care I remember being told about places you could set up a meeting with the birth family after the adoption. A place that would basically be like a supervised visit that you could rent.
We have adopted and moved since then and I am trying to find a place like this to try and arrange a meeting with the birth family. Does anyone know of such a place, specifically in the Dallas area? Thanks.
I've heard people talk about places like that but we have never used them.
We usually just meet in public places. Mc Donalds, Chuck-e-cheese etc or any place with a kid play area that is in a public setting and have a cell phone on hand just in case you run into a problem.
The nice thing is that it is free (unless you buy food or something) and it's meeting under more NORMAL terms...rather than in a sterile setting with people starring at you and watching every move you make.
You can invite a close friend or relative of your own if you'd like to help keep an eye on things for you.
I guess the way I look at it is that if you can't trust them enough to even have a visit in a public place without a problem than it's probably better for your child to not have contact at all.
Most of the childrens birthparents I've come in contact with aren't out to cause problems with the child or their family....their just happy to have contact at all.

You can look in the phone book for "shared parenting" facilities. Often times these same facilities are used for families of divorce where the mom and dad don't speak or want to deal with each other (drop kid off at one door, other parent picks kid up at other door). Usually they cost between $10/$15 per hour and the visits are very well supervised and documented.
