Some kids grow up without families,
without a loving mom and a loving dad,
without siblings who can be annoying and amusing.
Some kids grow up not knowing what love is,
not knowing how much they need love,
not knowing how much a simple hug can lift their spirits.
Some kids grow up in homes filled with hate,
in homes with abusive alcoholic parents,
in homes with torn photos, shredded pieces of self-esteem.
I'm a kid who doesn't know what a bad life is.
I don't know what it's like to live without a big family.
I don't know what it's like to not be loved.
I don't know what it's like to live my whole life in hate.
I've gone through hard times, feeling emotional and confused.
But I've never been completely alone, and I've never stayed down for long.
Even when times seem hard, I'll never know how hard they can truly be,
Because my parents adopted me, showed me what it's like to be nice, to be free,
And my dad always said that I should never walk away from my dream.
