Yes, another potty training question...how can such a natural thing be so challenging?
My 2 year old daughter goes pee by herself really well, but when she needs to poo, she wants to do so in a diaper. She likes to then dump it in the toilet and tell it "bye bye poopy," while she flushes it. But refuses to try and sit on the toilet to go.
I've tried motivating her with treats and she turns them down...which she never does otherwise. I'm letting her do it her way without pressure though, but am wondering if someone might know of a method that might encourage her.
Thanks!

Oh my I am so the opposite. He will only go doody in his potty chair (he is afraid of falling into the people toliet as he calls it) but pees in his diaper. Won't tell us that he needs to pee. My oldest was the complete opposite. I welcome suggestions too.
Thanks, Michelle

would a title read "doody in the toilet" and would I click on it so readily!!!
Let me tell ya, as a preschool teacher and aunt of many, I know many a child who had #2 definitely as a skill far behind #1. It's something to do with perhaps the lenghth of time as well as the, um, "security" of having your poops right there with you.
I'm having meg just run buck naked around the house from the waist down....she's pooped on the floor 2x!!! (how did I miss that??) But she's gone on the potty chair about 4 times, so we're getting there.
Good Luck! You know it won't last forever....
Thanks for the replies. She used a small potty earlier, but doesn't seem to need it now and refused to go poopie in there too. We have a neighbor who is 7 months older and I just found out this week that she does the same thing. So, at least I know it's not just her.
It's so funny in an odd and interesting way though, so that she can be so matter of fact about going to get her diaper and that it's just logical for her to go in there. Then, she'll go sit in her room and look at books for a few minutes and come tell me she went. It seems if she can reason all of that, that it would be more reasonable to just go in the toilet...but I remind myself she is two...so her reasoning is different than mine. I asked if she would like to bring her books and sit on the toilet this week and she said "no way!"
Thanks again!
My dd was the same way. We just talked about it everyday for about 6 months and then one day she just said "have to poopy" and that was it. I feel very lucky because she trained for day and night at the same time.
I'm having potty training nightmares with my 2 1/2 year old! His pediatrician keeps saying, "he's a boy, boys train later."
My oldest son, however, trained earlier. I know they all have their different ages and different stages. My oldest trained night and day before 2 1/2. My little one, when I can get him to go in the potty it's great, but he still has several accidents a day. For now, I've put him back in diapers.
I was a strong believer in the, "once the diaper comes off, it never goes back on" philosophy since that worked with ds#1. However, DS#2 has taught me otherwise! ;)

Ugh! I have two toddlers and the potty training is a nightmare. We will use the potty for #1 but never #2. I feel like I have read every potty training book and offered every incentive but nothing is working. Basically we have gone back to diapers at night and first thing in the morning (which is when they generally poop) then we use the underwear all day.
Do parents survive this? Is this one of these things that I won't really remember when they are older because right now I believe they will be in diapers at graduation!

LOL! They will potty train, and probably before K, so definitely before graduation!
My ds went #2 in the potty twice yesterday and both times when we flushed he said, "Look Mommy, they swimming away. Bye bye poopy!"

Ok, this might sound crazy but that was about the most hopeful thing I have read all day! I dream about a day when we are saying goodbye to the poop as it is FLUSHED away. :)
Tina,
I'm with you! I wonder how we all did it when we were kids. Did our parents have a hard time too? I'm sure they'll figure it out though. Hang in there.

I'm glad his "swimming poop" and saying bye bye to it gives you hope! Your day will come! He doesn't always go, he went in his diaper today and kept telling me he hadn't and was sitting for an hour in a nasty diaper! Gross!!!! Never even bothered him!
On another potty training issue, DD "requested" to sit on the toilet the other day (we put the Bjorn potty thing on top) and then just sat and wiped herself a million times without peeing. I was "praising" her, but then Ithought, "should I be?" or should I only praise her if she pees or poops (she hasn't really done that yet)?
I'm seriously in no rush...I think because the "end" of diapers means the end of any "delusions" i have that she is still a baby!
Love,
I'd recommend praising her even though she isn't actually going, because it is a step...and progress. The praise really worked for us when all my daughter would do at first is sit on the little potty in front of the t.v. It made her feel good and wanted to do it more. But, I always reminded her that the potty for going pee, or poo and she could do that when she was ready so she understood that.
Yes, we do have to give up babyhood eventually and it is hard, isnt' it?
Good luck!

Oh isn't, though? I can't believe my baby (he's my oldest, but he's still my baby, you know, the one who made me mom) is about to finish Kindergarten! It's crazy!
My 2 yr old is back in diapers. He was doing so well, and then I started baby sitting and he reverted back, then I got sick, and now he's sick! :(

My baby girl does this too. She will usually pee in the toilet but then wants to wipe herself for twenty minutes and flush and then get back on the toilet and wipe and flush and then . . .
At some point I have to put a stop to it and encourage her to wash her hands which usually tears her away from the toilet paper. It amazes me what fascinates her these days. :)
