I am ready to start "PRE" potty training. I took Jordan with me to toys r us to pick one out like the book told me to. Of course he could have cared less about the toilets and took off for the popping mowers at the end of the aisle and proceeded to go up and down EVERY aisle with the mower touching EVERY toy on the shelf...but I digress
I got him the Elmo potty cuz he LOVES Elmo. (not quite as much as the wiggles..but close enough to cause excitement when he's mentioned). I set it up in the bathroom and asked if he wanted to go see the Elmo potty and oh boy did he ever. I told him to sit on it and he happily complied. On the second trip he peed. I screamed "YEAAAAAAAAA" and clapped so he said "YEAAAAAAAAAAAA" and clapped too. I don't think he had any idea what had happened..but he was happy anyway.
So do I go full out with potty training NOW while he's so interested in the potty and happily sitting on it? Do I get the pull ups and start with the stickers as rewards and the whole works?
I should mention he is in daycare Monday-Friday. Can I just start potty training on the weekends? Will that be confusing to him?
And the stupidest question of all.......
Do you put water in the bowl of the potty?
My husband was MORTIFIED that I was going to dump whatever deposits were in the bowl in the toilet and rinse it out in the sink or tub. He suggested I take it out in the back yard each time and rinse it out with the hose in the woods behind our house.
I would think having water in the bowl would make it easier to clean should there be a #2 deposit....but I can forsee splashing fun if it's there..and this may make him not want to sit..but rather play with the water instead.
Any suggestions or thoughts?

Haven't been through this yet myself---I am in exactly the same stage as you are and we are going to make a similar trip to TRU this weekend. However, knowing how much H enjoys splashing in the water (the dog's water, the toilet, any puddle, etc.) I probably would NOT leave H20 in the bowl. I know my dh will have the same issue w/ the dumping, but he is going to have to get over it----I am not going down 2 flights of stairs and then outside each time it needs to be cleaned. I was planning on putting a spray bottle of Clorox and water up on the high cabinet in that bathroom to spray the potty bowl after dumping, then rinse in the tub and then spray the tub and bowl again. *I just got a book---H ELMO GOES POTTY! so that we could kind of start the process. Thought I'd share since you have another Elmo fan. It's one of those "talking" books w/ the buttons you can push for sound.

Not even close to this myself (though I wish DD were!), but one suggestion I"ve heard is to get those disposable wipes and place one in the bottom of the pail... that way you can just dump it all in the toilet and it helps with the #2 clean up. Or alternatively would be to put some toilet paper in there and a little bit of water (just enough to wet the TP but not disintigrate it).I must also admit that at first (before DD) I too would have been 'grossed out' to clean anything like that in the sink... but since I've had all kinds of things on my hands that I've had to clean off it doesn't bother me anymore (besides, it all goes to the same place anyway!). I like HBV's idea of having the bleach-water to 'sanitize' after clean-up... maybe that would convince your hubby.
LOVE both suggestions for the clorox and the wipe in the bowl!!! Thanks!
I also have the elmo potty book. I won a lot on ebay that has various potty books and a "my big boy bed" book so I'm anxious to get that. The "no-cry potty training guide" I have says to vary the potty books you use since each child with identify with a book differently. They suggest using books with both characters (like elmo) AND real children or depictions of children using the potty.
right now the only book Jordan likes is "goodnight moon" so we'll see what happens.
My kids have all had little whoopsies in the tub over the years, so putting the ... er ... calling cards that the kids leave in the potty chair into the toilet, wiping it with tp and then rinsing it with a lysol or chlorox wipe, or rinsing it with lysol or bleach in the sink or tub is not a big deal. I just wipe down the sink or tub, too. I even wear gloves for this.If your Dh is eager for the extra exercise then have him run the potty chair outside after every exciting event to rinse it. And let's be real; does he really think the kids have not gone pee - or worse - in their bathwater while in your bathtub? Mine have pee'd, pooped and even barfed while bathing. Yes, it was a bit icky to clean, but that's what bathroom cleaners are FOR. LOL
