Well, it happened tonight.
That God awful moment you never want to happen in your life.
Your child is choking. I mean, REALLY choking.
Luckily, DS' gag reflex kicked in (I guess)and he threw up. Weird thing is...about 2 min after the episode, he threw up again!
I was, suprisingly, calm throughout. I think b/c I didn't want him to see the panic in my eyes?
I will NEVER forget the look in his though.
My poor baby!
Hug yours extra hard ladies! What a precious gift they are...

It is hard to describe the panic feeling you get inside...but kudos to you for keeping it together! I think that is our mommy strength.
I know in May I was in the ER twice within 3 weeks while my oldest got 3 stitches and then my youngest got 2. It was SO hard to watch them be pinned down screaming for me while I held back tears and tried to comfort them as best I could. Of course later by myself I REALLY broke down and let it all out...and realized how lucky I am!
About a year ago, my cousin gave my dd a LIFESAVER without asking me. We were leaving and as I picked her up to put her in her carseat, her hands went to her throat and she was CHOKING!!! I had NO idea she had a lifesaver in her mouth....I had just renewed my CPR & I went into action & it was dislodged. I was not a happy camper when I saw what she had in her mouth...anyhow, Thank GOD she's fine. It's funny cause she still remembers what happen & she won't put a whole life saver in her mouth anymore. I told her to bite into little pieces then put in her mouth.
Another time, my DS was playing on his slip & slid & the boys were suppose to take turns. As soon as we looked away, his friend did not wait his turn and slid at the same time that my DS did & they collided head on....I freaked!! It was the 1st time he'd ever been hurt..my friend had to actually calm me down....there was just so much blood. Anyhow, 7 stiches later...he was fine & mommy recovered!
Gah! Good for you for holding it together. Choking scares the bejeebus out of me. Good think I married a paramedic. Now if only he was home sometimes...
Glad to hear things turned out well. That is a nightmare feeling. I'm glad you were able to stay calm thru it all. That really helped your little one for sure.

Sadiegirl--reading your story sent goosebumps up my spine. I get worried about that.
I had put on my list of questions for the doctor to ask if the hospital has a class for first aid, which I would think would include choking. I know something will happen sometime here. My husband just went to be recertified for CPR the other day. I need to re-learn again. I have forgotten.
Thank goodness your son is alright!
((hugs)) Yep. I sometimes wonder how parents survive through all the events of their children's lives. I've earned EVERY ONE of my gray hairs and I'm not going to cover them up EVER because I've worked so hard for each one! LOL
