Thanks to Crick for giving me permission to post this request in this forum!
I'm a freelance writer (and also a mom via domestic infant open adoption), and I write pretty regularly for Redbook. My editor has asked me to do several articles for a feature package on adoption, which will include both "service boxes" (informational pieces about aspects of adoption) and personal stories, in an "as told to" format. (In other words, I'll interview the person and then write the story as in their own words.)
So I am seeking several adoptive moms to tell their stories for this piece. I posted on a couple of other forums a few weeks ago, and we found several great people to contribute; now my editor has another couple of requests. One personal story she would like to include is the story of a single, African-American mom who's adopted. I have to gather 2-3 potential stories to present to my editors, and they'll choose one. They're in a rush--they want to know by Thursday!
The only thing is that you'd have to be comfortable having your real name used and having a family picture published. Also, because we've already identified a foster-adopt family to profile, you shouldn't have adopted from foster care--but any other type of domestic adoption (or international adoption, except from China as we've already identified one family for that aspect of the story) is fine.
If you think you might be interested, then please PM me or e-mail me privately (at ginadcnj@gmail.com) and tell me a little bit about yourself and your family. Thanks so much!
