My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a larger property to open an "Adoptive Community". In simple terms the community will be designed to provide a home for those families that have a life calling to adoption. They will live in community, providing the benefits of shared resources related to meals, laundry, home schooling (if desired), counseling, etc.
The community will be Christian based and is intended to provide an alternative to the foster or group home models. We believe some will come and live in the community for a year, while others may choose to be there long term.
Individual families/parents will be responsible for the raising and provision of their own children, while enjoying the benefits of living in community.
Additionally, we would like to provide a "home" to older teen agers/young adults that have been bounced through the foster system. The thought is to give them an opportunity to live with healthy families all around them, allow them to finish education, begin holding a job, etc.
The reason for writing in this forum - does anyone know of a community like this in the U.S.? Until now, I have not come across any and would like to learn from others experience.
Thank you.
