I have been searching for a few years now and I was recently told something that has confused me.
I'll start by saying that my mother has never been forthcoming with ANY information. It is a topic we never discuss. I have always been told that I was born in NY. I even went to the NY library and looked through the birth records and found my "original birth certificate" like people always told me about.
I was told by my cousin that her mom is INSISTING that I was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She is swearing up and down thats where I was really born and adopted from.
IS THIS POSSIBLE?? It is possible for me to have found the information I did and still to have been born in a state other then NY. Is it possible my parents did something or paid someone to have all this information covered up?
I am VERY confused and VERY upset about all of this. Is there anyone out there who knows anything about this and can help me??????
Thank you to anyone who responds!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear of what you are going through, you must feel very traumatised. I don't know what to say other than I feel pretty sure that someone on these forums will respond to you soon that know better than I do. I have noted posts on other threads that talk of a similar situation, where they feel lied to. No wonder you are so devastated, if you have been given conflicting information.
How do you feel about asking your amom outright? I have to say with my own experience about my own family (not adopted) that I have to check out carefully what stuff they come up with, as its not always as accurate as they would make me believe. Best to come from the horses mouth as the saying goes, but is it possible to check out what your cousin is saying without involving your amom? I mean if your cousin is coming up with this, where is the evidence?
Sorry you are going through this, but I would ask the cousin if they can prove what her mother is saying? Can you arrange to have a private chat with her??
All the best, hope you hear one way or another soon, this has to be put to rest, it must be tormenting you something awful.
(((Hugs)))

I would say that if you found your Original Birth Certificate in the New York public library then you were in all likelihood born in New York State. Usually, if there is a falsehood about place of birth, it is on the Amended Birth Certificate, not the OBC. Many amended certificates, especially from decades ago, show the town and state of the adoptive parents' residence, not the actual birth place of the infant. But from what I understand, it would be very difficult to have an OBC with false information, especially a whole different state being listed for place of birth.
Coming from someone whose adoptive mother still pays people off to keep me out of my records after 41 yrs. I think it could be possible to have a birth certificate filed in New York even though you were born in Somewhere else. Like I said, I am 41 and anytime I tell my adoptive mother that I am getting information, even straight from the agency, some how when I call back to talk to them about something they already told me, they deny it and tell me that they can't talk to me anymore.
My adoptive mother was a court reporter and I grew up in a family with a ton of money and connections. They use them.
I wouldn't fret though, you have found something I probably never will, Your original birth certificate, falsified state or not, it is still alot more than any of us ever find. Congrats!!!!! That is really cool
