OK ladies, I want to hear all your opinions.
I like Christian meanings/biblical type names that are 'strong' and I tend to like simpler old fashioned names.
Our DS has a very strong simple saint name and it is perfect.
What names do you all like that fit into that description. Boy and/or girl, lets hear them all! It there a particular meaning to the name that makes you love it?
My son's name is actually Adam Joseph..We had always decided on Adam Michael (my DH's name is Michael) but when Adam was born, his firstmom had chosen Joseph as his middle name...so we decided to keep it...
I always wanted to name my son Jonah, but my DH did NOT like it...so as a joke, he said "Why don't we just make this easy on ourselves and if we have another boy, call him Joseph Adam - haha"...Well, Joseph was close enough to Jonah, and it kind of stuck, even though it's a bit wierd that his first name is the same as Adams middle name (but I drew the line at using Adam as the middle name - haha).
I have to admit, though, there are days when I really wish we would have chosen Jonah - sigh...
By the way - I LOVE Emily Marie - my only thought is that it's SOO popular - and coming from a "Jennifer" who is married to a "Michael", believe me - it's not all it's cracked up to be...lol

Oh Jonah is another fav of mine! But, alas DH... ugh!
but DH does like ADAM! we may be getting somewhere!
On the popular names... Michelle here and my bro is Michael! I know it! But I'm still digging Emily Marie I think. Madeline was part of my G'mas name and I am kinda liking it now. She was very french, her name was Marie Madeline Leonie (but all with crazy french spelling!) and went by Madeline. I think it is kinda pretty.
My daughter is Elizabeth and one of the reasons I liked it is because it is a biblical name (it also means, "God's promise" which I thought was fitting). It's also the name of Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
Other biblical/saints names I like:
Luke
Jonah
Noah
Benjamin
John
Magdalene (could use Maggie for short)
Rosemary (reminds me of Our Lady of Guadalupe)
We just arrived home one month ago today with two gifts from God that we adopted from Russia.
We named our son Zachary - the Lord has remembered -as it seemed very fitting to our situation and our long wait for a family.
We named our daughter Marina, and will be calling her Mari for short (pronounced Mary) as she gets older. This one's pretty self-explanatory. :)
This is a beautiful thread.

Marina is beautiful...congratulations, by the way!

My oldest is Maire Katreena. Maire is pronounced "Mary" and is the Irish spelling. Her middle name Katreena came from the song "Walking on Sunshine" which was on the radio when I was driving home after hearing I had a daughter.
My youngest girl is Hanna-sticking with old testament names. Her middle name is "Avery". I just picked it because I like it.
The baby (fingers crossed) will have the middle name "Tien-Rafael". He's half Vietnamese ('tien' is Vietnamese for 'angel') and half Mexican (Rafael is the hispanic spelling of the name). I was born on the archangel Raphael's feast day. For his first name, I've chosen something that I just like. No biblical ties.
We named our son Silas, who was a companion of Paul in the bible. I like it because it is biblical and different, yet strong.
For our second child I would really like Gianna for a girl. Last year one of my students did a report on St. Gianna and it touched my heart.
As for a boy I like Elijah. But, DH isn't sold on it.
What gorgeous names you have all given your children!
A beautiful thread to read...
My daughter was born to my 2nd cousin - we knew we wanted to name her Mary something, and one day we were kicking around the names. "What about Mary Grace?" "What about Mary Anne?"
My husband mumbled, "Uhhh, Mary Elizabeth?" Suddenly, it hit us: MARY ELIZABETH!
Of course!
The names of the Blessed Virgin AND HER COUSIN!
It is perfect.

Do you call her Mary Elizabeth? Mary? Or Mary-Beth?
It's a beautiful name.
We mostly call her Mary, though I have a friend named Mary Liz, and we occasionally find ourselves calling our daughter that.
I love telling people about my kids' names :)
We have Bethany who is 9, named after the town that Lazarus was from. Bethany was a preemie born after a very complicated pregnancy and she wasn't supposed to live. Well, Lazarus wasn't either ;)
Josiah is 4, his name means the "fire of the Lord." King Josiah was a great king of the OT!
Judah is 2, his name means "praise" and I have always loved the name!
Our little one adopted from central Asia will be Asa James. Asa was also a great OT king, and his name means "healer, doctor." We pray that God will use our Asa to bring healing to his country of birth some day!
I picked the name Matthew (I usually call him Matty, and often combine this with his birthname- it has a nice flow!) for my little man- this means "gift of the Lord" in Hebrew...he is SUCH a gift from the Lord, given to me to love. I am so blessed!

I just loved the name Jonah until I started looking into it's meaning. I can't remember the details, but I do remember that some consider it a very UNLUCKY name! If you live in a seaside community, you'd probably get looks (or people crossing themselves) if you named your boy that - sailors think it is a curse to have that name! Gee, I wonder why.
On another note...our son was born on St Patrick's Day.
We named him Henry.
I like Ruth from the Book of Ruth. Ruth Ann is nice.
We went with Samuel and Sophia - both saints with interesting backgrounds. Sophia was also the Patron Saint of Russia and our kids are Russian.
I love the names of angels - Michael, Rafael, Gabriel. Very strong names. David is also a good one for a boy.
I am Christina with a brother named Christopher. A few of my friends have used these names for their children. Too many Chris's in my family for me!
Good luck!
