Hi
I am looking into the possibility of adopting a little girl from Africa, I met here while working there over the summer and I want to be her mum. She has little chance of finding adoptive parents due to a health condtion and she might find Foster parents out in Africa. She would get better treatment in thsi country and I would love for her to be my daugther but I'm worried about taking her away from her country and her cultre. I'm worried that she wouldn't feel at home in the uk, and that I wouldn't be able to help her deal with racial issues that I can't understand being white!
Does anyone have a view on the best thing to do? If I did go a head with adoption how can I avoid her feeling unhappy!

I highly recommend having a read of the Intercountry Adoptive Parent Education program that's provided by the Queensland, Australia, state government's overseas adoption unit. The info is free to view on their web site, has had a lot of input from some inter-country adoptees in Queensland, and is quite comprehensive. It includes info about identity and culture and more. If you search for Department of Child Safety Queensland, you'll find the following URL
