Hey everyone!
Raven asked me to let you know that she's going to be taking a few days off from the forum.
She fell down her basement steps and cracked her head open and busted some of her toes!!!!!
So she's going to rest up for a bit and then be back - good as new she says.
Raven - take care of yourself and get better soon, okay?

I want to thank all you wonderful women for the kind thoughts and prayers you've sent my way this past week. Today is the first day I've been able to get onto the computer, and it's really difficult for me to read posts without getting nauseated (the text keeps swimming), so I need to start out slowly in my return to the forums.I'm feeling a lot better today, although I'm still pretty weak. Besides the huge head laceration and broken toes, I sustained a neck injury (they thought I had a broken neck for the first few hours), plus a brain concussion. So I've been super nauseated all week, as well as having trouble keeping my balance. I keep getting dizzy, which doesn't help when I'm trying to walk...The staples come out on Thursday, which will be nice because I look kind of like Frankenstein, lol. The horrid thing is waiting for the medical bills to start piling in here. I lost my health insurance several years ago, and the economy is doing a real number on us. And in order to qualify for MediCal (California's form of Medicaid), you are required to have a minor child if you are a woman under the age of 65. So it seems I'm up the proverbial creek...without a paddle. It doesn't make any sense to me that healthy 30-year-old women can receive MediCal as long as they have kids, while older women are not eligible (unless you're blind or totally disabled). There doesn't seem to be any safety net for women like me. I just hope we don't lose our home over this fiasco.Anyway, enough of my depressing views on health care in this state. I'm so blessed that my injuries weren't worse and that I didn't fracture my neck. That was pretty scary when the doctor first read the initial xrays and told me I had a crack in one of my cervical vertebrae. I'll never forget that moment... Fortunately a CAT scan came back negative, and it turned out that the crack the doctor thought he saw was just massive arthritis...the arthritis made it hard for him to read the xrays.Once again, thank you for the well wishes. They're very much appreciated! :loveyou:

Raven, welcome back!!! I am so sorry that you endured all that. Good gosh! I know you have getting well to think of first, but I appreciate your concerns about med bills. Does CA have a "homestead exemtion" law (i.e., you can file something at the registry to protect your home from creditors). DH and I did that recently and I would recommend it. Also, do you own your home with someone else? As far as I know, no matter what your debt, they can't "force" a sale if someone else is a homeowner. Finally, my practical advice....when you get the bill, call the hosp and try to work out a reduction/small payment plan...I think sometimes getting "out in front" can really be helpful. Anyway, sorry for my boring stuff...really hope you get better soon!!

Also sending you best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Medical care benefits are so unfair -- I don't understand how the Octuplet Mom and her dad can buy a home -- who is paying the hospital bill??? The CA taxpayers, I guess -- that's you and me...lovely thought.
Glad that you didn't sustain even more serious injuries (there's a silver lining hiding in there somewhere) -- rest up and get better!!! I hope you've taken a picture with all your Frankenstein stitches. Good luck with everything!
