Looonnnggg story...but one that I'm dying to share! :grouphug:
My DH and I will be celebrating our 14th anniversary on April 21.
Prior to getting married, we had our pre-marriage meeting with our priest (Fr. Ron, who to this DAY remains one of the most influential people in my life!).
Anyway, here I was, this young, 22 year old girl about to get married. I relayed a story to Fr. Ron about how I had just started a job, and was excited about my upcoming marriage - and how my new boss said to me "Yeah? Well come to me in 14 years and tell me how happy you are!"
Well, on our wedding day, Fr. Ron retold this story in front of all our family and friends (and my boss - YIKES!)...at the end of the story, he issued us a challenge - he said "I want you two to do something for me. Come find me in 14 years and tell me where life has taken you."
So here we are, 14 years later...I tracked down Fr. Ron and sent him a letter...
TODAY, I RECEIVED A RESPONSE!!!!
I'd like to share a small piece of his letter to us...
"...I thought you might appreciate knowing that during Lent I have been doing a Monday evening Lenten reflection series in Oxford for the Sisters and folks from neighboring parishes. Last weekend our reflection centered on how important (and difficult) it is to look deep inside ourselves to see what potential is really there. At one point in my talk I quoted from your letter. Don't worry. There was nothing that could identify you to anyone. But what you wrote certainly expressed what I was seeking to develop. The most touching part that I used was your statement about "Life is good; no, life is amazing!" That said volumes. And I thank you."
Let me tell you - I had a really trying day today...But when I pulled up in front of my house to see my DH standing in the driveway waving this envelope, well, Life is good. And to be able to read this letter with my beloved husband of 14 years...well, life is amazing...
