Hello, I am an adoptee starting out my search for my birth mother. I am at a loss as to where to begin. I have the identifying info but unfortunately I have the most common last name. What can I do or is there someone to help me. Thanks
I found mine by searching my last name in the obits. Ontarioobits.com I believe...
they helped a lot.
From there I called an aunt (411.ca), and then from there everything really opened up.
I searched on many sites before then, to no luck.

Hi,
I had a very common last name as well. It definitely doesn't make it easy but it's not impossible either.
I posted a [free] ad on Cousin Connect which was actually my breakthrough. You can also search for surnames.
You may also want to try Adoption Registry Connect.
I also put my name on the Canadian Adoptees Register which has hundreds of records.
Facebook can be a great resource as well. Even though their searching capabilities are limited, if you have even a first and last name and know the city you were adopted in that can be a great place to start. There are also adoptees searching groups on there.
I wish you all the best in your search!
